Shopping options sizzle in Chicago, filled with a dazzling array of stores and boutiques that become all the more magical during the holidays. Windy City icons include flagship department stores such as Marshall Fields and Carson Pirie Scott on State Street. Bargains await at Nordstrom Rack. The Magnificent Mile, an eight-block stretch of North Michigan Avenue, offers four major malls and some 460 stores with virtually every type of retailer. Trendy, upscale boutiques await on Oak Street. Chicago Place, with 50 stores and a food court on the scenic eighth floor, features Home Element, catering to demand for modern, urban living, and occupying the center’s entire fifth level. Water Tower Place, with more than 100 stores and a themed food court, houses Barcelona Presence, a Spanish art gallery and cultural center, and Nuts on Clark, specializing in fresh nuts, candies and dried fruits. For neighborhood shopping, Old Town, around the corner of North Avenue and Wells Street, awaits with specialty boutiques for apparel, shoes and home decor. Wicker Park / Bucktown and Lincoln Park’s Armitage District also rank as boutique strongholds for shoes, jewelry, and designer duds. Outside the city near Aurora, Chicago Premium Outlets touts deals on designer labels from Armani to Coach and Polo Ralph Lauren.
